The TOOTH FAIRY CAME
by Ginger Edwards

Last time I put a tooth under my pillow for the Tooth Fairy, she came and took my tooth and left me a dollar. I wanted to see her, but somehow I fell asleep.

Now, I've lost another tooth. THIS time I am going to see that Tooth Fairy. I am putting my tooth under my pillow and I will stay awake. I will stay awake all night if I have to. I will just lie here and wait.

Oh, oh. I hear whispering wings. I see a sparkle of light. The Tooth Fairy! “Hello, Tooth Fairy.”

“I thought you would be asleep,” she said in a small voice that sounded like tiny bells.

“I want to thank you for the dollar you left me last time. I stayed awake because I wanted to see you. No one ever sees the Tooth Fairy.”

The Tooth Fairy smiled and said, “Many children just like you do see me, they just don't remember.”

“Why don't they remember?” I wanted to know.

“Because Tooth Fairies make and carry magical Fairy Dust. Just before we leave, we sprinkle it over the children’s eyes so they forget.”

“Fairy Dust does that? What else can it do?”

“It gives happy dreams too.”

“What else?”

“Since it is magical, it does many good things. Fairies of all kinds use Fairy Dust to work their magic.”

“What is Fairy Dust?” I wanted to know.

Again she smiled. “We go all over the world and collect baby teeth that are left under pillows and leave something in return. Then we take these teeth back to Fairyland, and make them into Fairy Dust.”

“But, teeth aren't magic,” I said.

She landed on my chest and looked me in the eye. “Yes, they are. We get it from all the good and happy children of the world. Every time you smile, you store a little magic in your teeth. The more you smile, the more magic is in your teeth. It’s smiles that make Fairy Dust magical.”

The Tooth Fairy flew up into the air. “Thank you for your tooth,” she said. “It is a very happy tooth and will make wonderful Fairy Dust. Happy dreams.” She sprinkled something shiny over my face and I fell asleep.

But guess what? When I woke up this morning, I remembered!

THERE IS TOO a TOOTH FAIRY
by Ginger Edwards

“Look Eddie. I lost a tooth! I’m gonna’ put it under my pillow and see if the Tooth Fairy leaves me some money.” Bobby held out his tooth for Eddie to see.

“Only sissies believe in the Tooth Fairy!” sneered Eddie.

“Well I believe.”

Eddie leaned toward Bobby. “Then you’re a big sissy, Bobby!”

“I am not. Why do you say that?”

“Because you believe in the Tooth Fairy and there isn’t one!”

“What makes you think there’s no Tooth Fairy?” demanded Bobby.

“Well, I don’t believe in any dumb Tooth Fairy in a pink dress ‘cause I left my tooth under my pillow and no Tooth Fairy came and left me anything.”

“There is too a Tooth Fairy ’cause my big brother told me so. He left his tooth under his pillow and the Tooth Fairy came, so I’m putting mine under my pillow and one will come and leave money for me!”

“Yeah, your brother is a sissy too if he tells stories about stinky girlie fairies in pink dresses.”

“He is not!  I’m going to tell him you said that.”

“Yeah, tattletale, you tell your sissy brother and his stupid pink fairies.”

“Hey, Bobby. You want to catch a few?” asked Bobby’s big brother. “What’s the matter Bro? You look kinda down.”

“Eddie’s a jerk! He called me names.”

“Well, he can be a jerk sometimes, but I thought you guys were friends.”

“Who wants to be friends with a jerk who calls you a sissy?”

Bobby’s big brother knelled down. “What started the argument?”

“He called you a sissy, too, ‘cause he said you believe in dumb girlie fairies.” Bobby struggled to hold back his tears.

“I told you that when I was your age and I put a tooth under my pillow, the Tooth Fairy came and took it and left a surprise in its place. Did I say it was a girl fairy?”

“No, I guess not.” Bobby wiped at his eyes with the back of his hand. “What kind of fairy was it?”

“Tooth Fairies are magical. Lots of people think of a fairy as a girl with wings flying around. I like that too, but I like dinosaurs better, so guess what? I had a Dinosaur Tooth Fairy with wings. So your Tooth Fairy can be anything you want.”

Bobby brightened up. “Even a dog?”

“Sure, why not? Tonight, put your tooth under your pillow and see what happens.

The next morning on the way to school Bobby ran to catch up with Eddie.

“Hey, Eddie, I got something for you. Last night I put my tooth under my pillow and the DOG Tooth Fairy came and left me a dollar. And he left this letter for you.” Bobby held out a small envelope.

Eddie took the envelope. He tore it open and read:

Dear Eddie,

I am sorry I couldn’t find your tooth when you lost it. I        looked, but I just  couldn’t find it. Then I asked the Dog Tooth Fairy        who visited Bobby last night if he could find it. You know he is very good at finding lost things. He promised to search for it. I  asked him that when he found it, would he please leave this dollar in an envelope for Bobby to give to you.

Remember to brush your teeth every morning and every night.
